STARSHIP TROOPER REVIEWS AND EDITORIALS

From the first minutes to the last, Starship Troopers is a non stop rush. With beautiful special effects and stunning computer animation, Starship Troopers has broken the mold for Science Fiction Movies. Others have compared this movie to the likes of Star Wars because Star Wars was the revelation of the 70's in Science Fiction and movie technology. Comparing Star Wars to Starship Troopers is like comparing Jaws and Friday the 13th as horror movies.

First of all there is the rating Star Wars rated a tame PG whereas Starship Troopers is rated R (18A). Starship Troopers is extremely violent and gory. It contains swearing and nudity and Star Wars has none. The CGI in Starship troopers is above and beyond the stop motion done in the originals and even surpasses that which we have seen in the Special Edition. This level of Special Effects is what I expect to see in the next three Star Wars movies.

If you wanted to compare this movie to another one of its Genre I would use the Aliens Trilogy and an even better example will be the "Aliens Resurrection". I myself have always enjoyed Star Wars and was dedicated to it for a long time and still am but Star Wars is not comparable to Starship Troopers.

Starship Troopers is destined to be a Science Fiction Classic with the ranks of Aliens. It follows the path of Johny Rico. The world has been attacked by a race of bugs from a distant planet called Klendathu. The soldiers battle the evil hordes of this planet in the style of classic World War 2 movies. It is an extremely violent and gory movie and I don't suggest anyone under the age of 8 seeing it because it is rated R(18A) because of the violence and nudity but contains little swearing. 5 stars

"The battles and the bugs are magnificent. Special-effects designer Phil Tippett has the time of his life here: his sprawling army of giant spiders, beetles and wasps outdoes even his famed Velociraptors from 'Jurassic Park'."

Jeff Giles NEWSWEEK

"Starship Troopers" is a kick-ass paramilitary, teenybop, creature-feature spectacular. Director Paul Verhoeven returns to the shock-comix mode of 'Robo-Cop' and 'Total Recall'. The picture is like 'Aliens', 'Star Wars', 'Top Gun' and 'Jurassic Park' all jammed together. The future-world satire is quite witty. A hyperactive, death-sport video game. Sensationally exciting! Dazzling new levels of computer-animated wizardry, the rhythms of the thrills are scary and addictive. The movie turns its audience into vicarious Terminators. A brazenly entertaining movie. Like 'Star Wars', it could become ground zero for a new generation of thrill junkies. "
